Love #1: Flowers
Okay, just gotta say these are NOT in order. That would be nigh impossible. So. I started with flowers. I guess that is pretty general, ha.
Mainly, the reason I like them is for either their beauty or their functionality. Some of my favourite* examples of beauty in regards to flowers are:
Daffodils
Snapdragons
Hydrangea
Marigolds
Freesias
Magnolias
Asters
Larkspur
Gardenias
Pansies
Daisies
Coneflowers
Bog Arums
Latanas
Hoary Stock
Calluna
Foxglove
Poppies
It is kind of hard to separate the "functional" ones from the "pretty" ones, as the functional flowers can also be gorgeous! But here is a list of some handy flowers--some of which are considered herbs--so you can see what I mean:
Lavender
Callendula
Day Lily
Chickory
Yarrow
Wild rose (rose hips are edible in February and taste delicious if you can extract the seeds--they're pretty bitter ;)
Elderberry
Wild Dill
Plantain
Lambs Ear
Jewel Weed (I wouldn't recommend eating this one; but if you chew it into a pulp it soothes nettle stings, bug bites, and poison ivy.)
Dandelions
Violets
St. John's Wort
Witchazel (a natural astringent lotion is made of the leaves and bark)
Garlic Mustard Seed
And many, many more!
I always feel like I'm forgetting one...and yes--I did those off the top of my head, from what we have on our property alone! I would highly encourage research on the subject--ever been in the woods, and gotten hit by nettles? Poison ivy? Jewel weed actually grows NEAR those things! Isn't that crazy? God is so creative; it boggles my mind.
*(yes, no; I am not from the UK; but I DO read quite a few old novels from that lovely place and therefore: the spelling.)
